Somatic experiencing®

Somatic Experiencing (SE™) is a therapeutic approach that focuses on helping individuals overcome the effects of trauma, stress, and emotional dysregulation. It was developed by Dr. Peter A. Levine, a psychologist and trauma expert, in the late 1990s.The SE approach recognizes that traumatic experiences can become "stuck" in the body, leading to a range of physical and emotional symptoms. By using techniques that help the individual become more aware of their bodily sensations and responses, SE aims to release this trapped energy and promote the body's natural healing processes.

SE practitioners work with clients to help them develop awareness of bodily sensations and feelings, and to explore how these experiences are connected to past trauma or stress. Through guided exercises and gentle touch, practitioners help clients learn to regulate their nervous system and move through difficult emotions and physical sensations in a safe and supportive environment.

SE is used to treat a range of conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and other physical and emotional symptoms related to trauma and stress. It is often used in conjunction with other therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based practices.
